Tablet- replace parts or buy a new on?

I have a HP tc4200 Tablet. My brother used an incorrect charger,and we think it fried the motherboard.

It’s $300.00 for a new motherboard.
The same computer, but used is $800.00.
My question is should I buy the new motherboard (is it guaraneed to fix the problem?) or buy a used laptop, and sell the other one for parts?

Get a laptop, do a lot more. And keep your brother away from the power cord.
